Saturday we headed up to the Barnes and Noble outside Saratoga Springs to meet Julia DeVillers and Jennifer Roy. DeVillers is the author of the Liberty Porter books, which Phoebe has enjoyed reading, and she and Roy have a series about twins--they are twins themselves--that Phoebe will now give a shot. The crowd was actually small, so Phoebe got quite a bit of quality time with them, and met DeViller's son, who was the basis for Liberty's friend Cheese Fries. Unfortunately, more LP books may not be coming, since their publisher wants them to focus on the twins series. But fingers crossed!

Later in the day we went out to the
Book House, a local independent bookstore to meet the Mystery Bus, a national bus tour of four mystery writers: John Connolly, William Kent Krueger, Liza Marklund, and M.J. Rose. My intention was to only buy one of Marklund's books--she is a Swedish writer I haven't tried out yet--but Rose made her new book,
The Book of Lost Fragrances, sound so interesting, I had to get a copy. And Connolly, who is Irish but lives in Maine, brought a limited edition novella that he was literally selling out of the back of the bus, so I had to get one of those too. And they were signing, of course. Phoebe apparently captivated the tour's cameraman and was chatting with him--on camera no less--about books. I got interviewed as we were leaving the store, but the bus noise was so loud, I don't know if they got anything useable. They are supposed to be blogging on
USA Today's website, so I may have to go check and see.
