As Humphrey the hamster would say! I've been slacking in my posts, and my only excuse is that we have been crazy busy. But Phoebe has been reading!
She took her summer reading sheets to Barnes and Noble and Borders to get her free books. Luckily, we got to Borders about a week before they announced they were closing all the stores--otherwise, I'm afraid they wouldn't have honored the form! B&N was so impressed that she had filled her sheet so early, they gave her another one to fill!
Anyway, she picked Liberty Porter, First Daughter from B&N and started reading it right away. It's about a girl named Liberty whose father becomes president. There is some interesting insight in all that happens as a family adjusts to that address! This is also the first book in a series about Liberty's adventures in the nation's capital.
After that, it was back to Humphrey with Surprises According to Humphrey and Friendship According to Humphrey. In these, Humphrey gets a new friend in Og, a frog who becomes the pet of another classroom--although he doesn't talk much. He is also gifted with a hamster ball that allows him to roll around the school and, occasionally, outside--which gets him in a little bit of trouble with a cat!
Most recently she read The Search for Sunken Treasure, which I believe is her last unread Geronimo Stilton book.
Right now, she is reading another Bunnicula book--I think The Celery Stalks at Midnight. And we are working through Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets together.
Phoebe's movie party was a big hit, and several kids were inspired to read the book after seeing the film. Since then, Phoebe's been to see her first baseball game (the Tri-City ValleyCats, which is the local minor league team) and live fireworks, and she went to Tanglewood on Tuesday where we got to see John Williams conduct. There were fireworks at the end of that too!
I will try to not fall behind again!
