Final Days with the Magic Treehouse

Phoebe finished Blizzard of the Blue Moon Saturday morning, and she finished the previous book in the series, Night of the New Magicians, last week. I think those might be the last unread Magic Treehouse books she has, so we will be moving on from that series--even Phoebe has noted that the books are too easy for her.

But we have ended with two pretty good ones, Magicians was set at the 1889 World's Fair in Paris, and she got to "meet" Thomas Edison, Louis Pasteur, Alexander Graham Bell, and Gustave Eiffel. Blizzard was set in New York City in 1938 and took her to the Cloisters, which we have yet to visit in person, and Central Park, where Jack and Annie discovered the Balto statue, which Phoebe has already seen.

Together, we are reading The Titan's Curse, which is the next in the Percy Jackson series. We haven't gotten too far into it yet. Maybe if I tell her there's a character named Phoebe coming up, she'll have some incentive (I look ahead on occasion!)

We've got all sorts of summer challenges to keep her going--the Borders free book challenge, a time challenge on the Scholastic website to set a new world's record for the amount of time kids read, and the Barnes and Noble one should start soon. I told her she couldn't use the same books for both free book challenges, so she's got a lot of reading ahead of her!
