Happy New Year everyone!
We finished Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone a couple of days ago. Like with the Percy Jackson books, Phoebe got pretty engrossed. Usually I make "mistakes" to make sure she's paying attention, but with these books, she gets too wrapped up in the story!
She couldn't really decide on a favorite part, but she did enjoy the end when the kids had to solve all the puzzles to get to the Stone and thwart Quirrell. She was also amused with the Every Flavor Jelly Beans--particularly the gross ones!
Now we are reading Into the Wild, the first book in Erin Hunter's Warriors series, which is all about cats. The hero is a cat named Rusty, who starts out as a "kittypet"--a housecat. The wild cats tend to not have a high opinion of them, but I think Rusty is going to change their minds! The cat society seems based on Native American culture, but that adds another level. Unlike some other animal-based series, these cats don't wear clothes or do anything human--they behave like cats.
Enjoy January!
