Two Books Down!

Hello everyone and Happy December!

We finished The Sea of Monsters. It was hilarious. Phoebe couldn't even point to a favorite part--there were the Grey Sisters who share one eye and one tooth; there was Tyson the cyclops and his pony fixation, and Rainbow the hippocampus--or "fish pony" according to Tyson. Not to mention Grover the satyr in drag trying to fool Polyphemus into thinking he was a potential bride and not a snack. So much from The Odyssey was in here--if Phoebe remembers it, she'll be in a good place when she reads that!

Next we read Benjamin Franklinstein Lives!, which had some obvious overlaps with Shelley's novel--the protagonist was named Victor, for example, but was about history, science, and being a fish out or water. That book used a lot of onomatopoeia, which Phoebe loved to read--and she likes to say the word as well. One of the authors teaches at Sage, so we got it autographed for her after we were done.

Now we are making our way through Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. We've had a couple of false starts in the past, but it looks like we are going to make it all the way through this time. However, Phoebe is a little disappointed that it isn't as funny as Percy Jackson--although she enjoys me reading as Hagrid, who has a heavy accent--and also that there aren't too many onomatopoeias for her to read.

Guess that is all for now. Hope it isn't too cold where you are--although I think it is pretty frigid everywhere. At least we should have some snow if it is going to be like this!
