Hurricane Florence

Hi everyone--

I wanted to make a post here since not everyone is on Facebook (come to the Dark Side--we have cookies!)

So, Florence is coming, and it is due to make landfall in North Carolina Thursday. As of this morning, a Hurricane Watch has been issued for the coast from South Carolina to the North Carolina-Virginia border, including the Pamlico and Albemarle Sounds. A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for the coast from South Carolina to the North Carolina-Virginia border, including the Pamlico and Albemarle Sounds.

While we are not in the direct path, we are expecting wind and rain. If the storm stalls (like Harvey did in Texas last year), we could get a lot of rain. There are four evacuation zones in our area, and our house is not in any of them, so that is good. A mandatory evacuation of Zone A started this morning.

Area schools started closing today, and will remain closed for the week. CNU is not in an evac zone, and has not closed yet, but they are assessing the situation, and that will likely change. Phoebe's dance studio is closed starting today, the co-op where I will be teaching will not be open on Friday (that was supposed to be the first day). Places are closing not necessarily because they are in danger zones, but so families can prepare and evacuate if needed. I imagine no one will be able to go anywhere Friday and Saturday.

Our major concern is loss of power, so we are taking stock of batteries and non-perishable food. We have lots of books and yarn, so we will have plenty to keep ourselves occupied. :) We will maybe download a couple of movies to my iPad just in case.

We will have our phones, so as long as there is cell service, we will post updates to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Thankfully, we don't mind hanging out with each other for extended periods of time.

On a different note, Phoebe is now fully into all her activities. Dance started on Saturday, and they did auditions for The Nutcracker, which they will be putting on in December. She had class last night, but today's classes, and this coming Saturday's, will not take place. So she will have to wait to meet the littles she is a Teacher's Assistant for.

Her college French class is going well. She had her first quiz, which she did very well on. She is supposed to have an exam tomorrow, but Florence may cause that to be postponed. Her homeschool co-op classes will be delayed, but that's OK.

So, we will keep you all updated regarding Florence, but we are as prepared as we can be. Happy thoughts!
