Sunflowers and Demigods

We finished Secrets of the Crown, and the crown was not really a crown at all! Phoebe liked that Aldwyn finally found some family, and we got to meet Skylar's family as well. She is excited for the third volume to come out because this one ended on a bit of a cliffhanger!

Now we are reading the final Percy Jackson book, The Last Olympian, and Phoebe was thrilled that Blackjack the Pegasus made an appearance in the first chapter--even if he did dent the hood of Percy's stepdad's Prius in the process. But, as is perhaps fitting for a final book featuring a sixteen-year-old hero, this is a bit darker--a semi-main character has already been killed--off-stage. But she is OK with it so far.

Phoebe finished Finding Danny and also Danger at the Zoo. Animals and mystery are a good combination for her! Not sure what she is reading now. She is busy preparing for her class play about the American Revolution, in which she has been cast as Betsy Ross.

With the Spring Equinox around the corner, Phoebe chose the Easter menu for this week's lunch. Her entree is a Sunflower Sandwich--a One Bun spread with soy cream cheese decorated with a cut up dried pineapple ring, sunflower seeds, and currents.

For snack, she has Honey Bee No-Bakes, a no-bake cookie made with oat bran, wheat germ (because I didn't have enough oat bran!), coconut, cocoa, and almond butter. Then a couple of almond slices on top to mimic the bee's wings.
