Phoebe's Travels

No news on the book front, but I thought I might catch everyone up on what else Phoebe has been doing.

After her moving up day and dance recital, we went down to New York City for a few days. Since she had just read about the Unicorn Tapestries, we took her to the Cloisters to see the real thing. That evening we went to Medieval Times, which was totally kitschy but she enjoyed it. I tried to leave my degree at the door and not pick apart everything! That day we also went to Candle 79, a famous vegan restaurant, for brunch. Yum! Lots of gluten-free options too, so we all had a great meal--so nice to not have to quiz the server!

The next day we went to the Natural History Museum primarily to see their exhibit on the brain. Phoebe has been very interested in the brain lately, so we thought she might like a tour through one! We saw some of the other exhibits, but plan to go back a couple more times to do everything. Too much for one day! After that we went to Blossom Cafe, another vegan restaurant, where I got a fabulous chocolate peanut butter milkshake!

Day three took us to FAO Schwartz, where we were some of the first customers and were welcomed by the staff. That was fun but kind of weird. David and Phoebe played the Big piano--although Phoebe is so light she had trouble activating the keys! Then we went to the Central Park Zoo, where we saw sea lions being checked out and fed. We were close enough to get splashed a bit. I wanted to see the snow leopards, but their exhibit was being worked on. :(

We also spent some time driving around. I wanted to show Phoebe the Statue of Liberty, but we couldn't get close enough--traffic was crazy. We did drive through the Ground Zero area and saw the new World Trade Center being built. David also took Phoebe on a tour of his old haunts in the Bronx.

It was a busy few days!

In case you haven't heard, Phoebe wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up. Well, when Zabar went for her check-up last week, we arranged for Phoebe to have a meet-and-greet with the doctor, which happened yesterday. Dr. Naef was great. Phoebe wore her vet outfit and had some questions prepared. She got to meet Millie, the office cat, and check her ears, heart, and teeth/throat.We all got a tour of the surgery, which is just like a smaller human surgery, and then Phoebe got to check some x-rays. She successfully, and quickly, identified eight puppies in a Labrador Retriever mom's tummy!

Hopefully there will be more book news soon!
