Happy Spring and Happy Reading!

I have a few books to catch you up on. We did read the first Nancy Drew book, The Secret of the Old Clock, after finishing Into the Wild. Some of the references were a bit dated--the book was written in the 30s!--but once I explained what "luncheon" was and why Nancy was always wearing "smart" dresses with hats and gloves, we were OK. Phoebe enjoyed the story and wants to read more, but as there are around 200 books now, I think we will skip around a bit!

Now we are reading the next book in the Bunnicula series--Howliday Inn. Howard the dog and Chester the cat get sent to Chateau Bow-Wow when their family goes on vacation--Bunnicula bunks with a neighbor. Anyway, Chester thinks there is nefariousness afoot and goes into detective mode. He's missing at the moment, but I am sure he will turn up eventually. Like Bunnicula, this is hysterical. Lots of allusions for the grown ups! We've got werewolf dachshunds, a love triangle between two French poodles and a bulldog, and other eccentric creatures. One of the poodles is indeed French and the other is Southern, so I started reading them with accents, and now Phoebe will make me go back unless I have them speak properly. I was doing a much better job of channeling my inner Scarlett O'Hara at the beginning.

Phoebe read Thea Stilton and the Mystery in Paris and Thea Stilton and the Ghost of the Shipwreck on her own. Both had the Thea Sisters on treasure hunting mysteries--in Paris and Beijing respectively. Since each of the Sisters comes from a different part of the world, each book, so far, has taken place in one of their home countries, and lots of information about that place is included. Now she is trying a Nancy Drew on her own--The Secret of Shadow Ranch--I jumped her ahead to #5!

That's all for now--I imagine there will be more accounts, of Nancy, Harold, Chester, and the Thea Sisters to come!
