Baking Bread

As noted in the previous post, Phoebe's class learned how to bake bread, and they were sent home with some ingredients and the assignment to make bread for themselves and also to bring back a loaf to donate to a local community center. King Arthur Flour supplied the ingredients.

Luckily, Phoebe picked Tea Sandwiches for her lunch this week--Cream Cheese, Cucumber, and Dill, to be specific--so I needed to make bread for that anyway. I had discovered some wheat berries in the cupboard, so Agave Wheat Berry Bread was the pick for "home" bread. We did cheat and make the dough in my bread machine, but Phoebe helped add all the ingredients, and we did bake it in the oven.

A little cookbook browsing revealed a recipe for Poppy Seed Pull-Apart Rolls in Vegan Brunch, so that is what we decided on for Phoebe to take back to school on Monday. This we did pretty much from scratch--just used a hand mixer with dough blades to mix it up. The rolls recipe made sixteen, so David and Phoebe each tried one to make sure they came out OK--too many gluten cooties for me!

In book news, Phoebe finished Vive la Paris, which she got at a library book sale, and Dog Magic, which is the sequel to Cat Magic. Now she is onto Hamster Magic, I believe. We are still working on the final Percy Jackson together.

Last night, Phoebe's school had an art show down at the Arts Center, and the Taylor School Singers, of which Phoebe is a member, sang for everyone. Phoebe's art and singing were both great--pictures to come!
