A Story about a Cat and an Upcoming Adventure with Dogs

Good morning all--

Fish stick week has ended, and this week we are doing roll-ups--slices of veggie bologna spread with soy cream cheese and then rolled up! I was doubtful, but Phoebe came home all smiles yesterday. They are accompanied by a pumpkin chocolate chip muffin, steamed broccoli, and a pear.

The pumpkin chocolate chip muffins are on the left. On the right are some gluten-free pumpkin cupcakes I made for myself with the remaining pumpkin! They were a yummy treat for me!

After her success with her vegan presentation, Phoebe is hoping to talk about her lunch adventures during the talent weeks that the school does in the second half of the year. While not a talent, in the past she has played the piano, and she may do that another day, it will be something fun to share. I will have to save some of the pics I've taken and make a PowerPoint out of them.

Back to books. Phoebe just finished The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips, by Michael Morpurgo--better known at the moment at the author of War Horse, which is currently has a stage version on Broadway, and a movie version which is supposed to be coming out later this year. Tips is a cat, and she and her family are evacuated from their home in the days leading up to the Normandy invasion. However, Tips has other ideas and goes back to have her kittens. Lily, the girl who is Tips's companion, tries to find her and befriends some American soldiers along the way. There are some sad parts--it is a war story, after all--but Phoebe seemed to take those in stride.

She started Igraine the Brave last night and said she was reading Hoot at school. Together, we are still working our way through The Battle of the Labyrinth.

Talk to you soon!
